South Island- Day 1

These are some pictures from the first day in the south island. My friends Dawn and Michael came out to visit. I picked them up in Auckland which is 3 hrs NW of my house. We had a few hours and grabbed lunch by the habor. The building in the background is the sky tower, the most recognizable structure in New Zealand. From Auckland we flew to Christchurch. Christchurch is the largest city in the south island. The next morning we headed south through the central part of the island. The landscape changed pretty dramatically. Midway down we were rear-ended at one of the many one-way bridges. Not my fault. We were all ok and pressed on unscathed. The mountain in the background of the picture of me skipping rocks into the lake is Mt Cook. This is the tallest peak in NZ. Eventually we made it down to Queenstown. We stayed at this great house just outside the city.
